The Robert Koch Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of Ljubodrag Andric's INDIA series, expounding on the artist's ongoing oeuvre of minimalistic and texturally amplified photographic architectural abstractions. Andric's masterful sense of place and light, gives breath to works precise in their reductive compositional dialect and lushness of detail. By providing universally recognizable entry points to the work such as walls, steps, windows and other facades, and reducing the image to it’s bare essence Andric invites the viewer to interpret the work on a deeply personal and meditative level.

As poignantly expressed by writer Mona Zaidi, “The effect of standing before the images immediately brings to mind the Bodhidharma. According to legend, the revered 6th century Indian sage sat in silent meditation before a wall for nine years. For nine years, so it is said, his eyes remained open, gaze fixed upon that wall. And much like the great Buddha before him, the Bodhidharma remained fixed to his immovable spot, swayed by neither desire nor fear. In other words, he had removed from his own middle distance all the worldly forms that lead to desire for object, or fear of subject. All that remained was he, the great stillness of that empty expanse, and, at some measured distance, a wall.”
