Matt Black awarded MacArthur Fellowship "Genius Grant"

Matt Black awarded 2025 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

The Robert Koch Gallery is pleased to share that gallery artist Matt Black has been awarded a prestigious 2025 Pollock‑Krasner Foundation Grant, recognizing his powerful work documenting the country's social and environmental issues. His photographs confront economic inequality, migration, and climate impact with unflinching honesty. The Pollock‑Krasner Foundation Grant will support Black’s ongoing New World Atlas series, structured in 17 chapters, one for each state west of the 100th meridian. We are proud to represent Matt Black and to support his ongoing practice.

Edward Burtynsky exhibition at International Center of Photography (ICP)

From June 19 to September 28, 2025, the International Center of Photography (ICP) presents The Great Acceleration, Edward Burtynsky’s first solo institutional exhibition in New York City in over twenty years. The exhibition features more than seventy photographs, including both well-known images and previously unseen works. Additionally, it includes three ultra-high-resolution murals, which offer a sweeping look at Burtynsky’s exploration of human-altered landscapes.
David Campany, Creative Director at ICP, curated The Great Acceleration and traces the visual and narrative evolution of Burtynsky’s work. He emphasizes both the fragility and striking beauty of the environments Burtynsky documents. Timed to coincide with Climate Week NYC in September 2025, the exhibition invites reflection and action. This timely exhibition highlights ICP’s commitment to photography that tackles pressing global issues.
The ICP show has already received strong press coverage, with pieces published in The New Yorker, BBC, National Geographic, Billionaire Magazine, Musée Magazine, The Art Newspaper, Flaunt Magazine, Fast Company, and The Guardian. Additional forthcoming coverage includes Document Journal, The New York Times, Artforum, and more.

Ljubodrag Andric on view at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice, Italy

On view at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Palazzo Cini, Venice, Italy from April 17 to September 8, 2025, Spazi, soglie, luci (Spaces, Thresholds, Light) coincides with the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia and explores Ljubodrag Andric’s photographic investigation of space and architecture. His work transcends objective reality, blending abstraction and materiality. Each image, tied to a specific location, evokes an immaterial, contemplative dimension.
Presented at Palazzo Cini in Venice, the exhibition features 16 works that connect Andric’s travels in India (2021–2024) with his residency at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, tracing visual resonances between Italian and Indian architecture.

Jeff Brouws’ work included Norton Museum exhibition

Jeff Brouws’ work will be included in the Norton Museum of Art’s exhibition, Blur / Obscure / Distort: Photography and Perception, on view from April 5 to July 20, 2025. The exhibition explores how photographers use visual ambiguity to challenge perception, with works by artists such as Uta Barth, André Kertész, and Francesca Woodman.
Brouws’ photographs often engage with the American landscape, documenting overlooked spaces, vernacular architecture, and the evolution of the built environment. His work reflects a deep interest in the intersection of history, culture, and visual representation, often drawing from conceptual and documentary traditions.

Edward Burtynsky London retrospective at Saatchi Gallery & accompanying monograph

Edward Burtynsky’s largest and most comprehensive retrospective survey exhibition to date is on view from February 14 through May 6, 2024, at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Extraction / Abstraction delves into the key subjects and signature images spanning his 45-year career. Alongside Burtynsky’s compelling photographs, the accompanying exhibition monograph features texts by celebrated art historian Simon Schama, who examines Burtynsky’s work in light of the question, “Can art help save the world?”, and curator Marc Mayer, former director of the National Gallery of Canada, who provides an overview of the photographer’s achievements as a technician, journalist, and artist.

Gallery artist Elliott Erwitt passes away at 95

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to the longtime gallery artist and photography legend, Elliott Erwitt, who peacefully passed away in his sleep on November 30, 2023 at his home in New York, surrounded by family. He was 95. As one of the last living legends of photography, his photographs captured the essence of the human experience with unparalleled wit and sensitivity. It has been the gallery’s honor to have represented and exhibited Elliott’s work throughout the years.

Matt Black Lucie Awards Finalist for Gallery Exhibition of the Year

We are thrilled to share the news that "Matt Black: The Central Valley and Mexico" has been selected as a finalist for the Gallery Exhibition of the Year award, presented by the prestigious Lucie Awards.
The Lucie Awards was launched in 2003 as part of the Lucie Foundation’s mission to honor master photographers, discover and cultivate emerging talent, and promote the appreciation of photography worldwide. Over the years, we have paid tribute to over 172 of the most important figures in contemporary photography through the Lucie Awards.

Trent Davis Bailey on view at Denver Art Museum

The Denver Art Museum will present 32 photographs from Trent Davis Bailey's “The North Fork” in what will be the artists largest exhibition to date. The exhibition opens on July 30, 2023 and will be on view until February 11, 2024. Titled “Personal Geographies: Trent Davis Bailey | Brian Adams,” the exhibition will be in two adjoining galleries: one with Trent Davis Bailey's photographs and the other displaying Iñupiaq photographer Brian Adams.

Alex Webb: Errand and Epiphany on view at Museum Helmond, Netherlands

Alex Webb: Errand and Epiphany is on view at the Museum Helmond, Netherlands from March 25 through October 1, 2023. The exhibition presents 85 large-format photographs shot in the Caribbean, Haiti, Mexico, Cuba, Latin America, Europe and the USA. In addition Alex Webb: Errand and Epiphany features a continuous screening of his short film about Istanbul, the city of a hundred names: ancient and modern, Islamic and secular. Museum Helmond has the privilege of showing the first ever institutional survey of Webb’s oeuvre which encompasses more than forty years of photography.

The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum honors those who have made great contributions to the field of photography and preserves historic photographs and cameras to share with the world. Past inductees include Ansel Adams, Steve Jobs, André Kertész, Cindy Sherman, Robert Frank, Annie Leibovitz, Gordon Parks, Berenice Abbott, Sebastião Salgado, among others.

Edward Burtynsky Receives Sony World Photography Awards 2022, Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award

The World Photography Organisation has awarded Canadian photographer, Edward Burtynsky, as the Outstanding Contribution to Photography recipient of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022. Widely regarded as one of the world’s most accomplished contemporary photographers, Burtynsky is best known for his sweeping images of industrial landscapes and the wider environmental crisis.

Mimi Plumb lecture at PhotoAlliance

PhotoAlliance lecture with with Mimi Plumb and Dennis Hearne, November 12th at San Francisco Art Institute Osher Lecture Hall.
Bay Area photographer Mimi Plumb has explored subjects ranging from her suburban Northern California roots to the United Farm Workers movement. This month Stanley Barker releases Plumb's third book The Golden City, featuring her photographs of San Francisco from 1984 through 2020. A solo exhibition of work from her previous book, The White Sky, is currently on view at Robert Koch Gallery (October 4 - November 26, 2021).
Introductory speaker Dennis Hearne will be sharing a selection of photographs taken in North Beach, San Francisco, where he has lived since 1965.
Due to safety protocols, tickets to the in-person lecture are limited to 100. Please remember mask and proof of vaccination are required.

With his square, large-format, black-and-white photographs and overwhelming panoramic landscapes, Black shows us a country far from unlimited possibilities and an American society, largely characterized by poverty, lack of opportunities and political resignation.
