Readymades: American Roadside Artifacts

For two decades, Jeff Brouws has traversed the country documenting the dilapidated but not yet wholly abandoned vestiges of America's great mid-century experiments in restlessness. In Readymades, we are treated to images, both playful and quirky, that include, partially painted pickup trucks, abandoned drive-in movie theaters, railway freight cars, and roadside signs. By treating his subjects as Readymade art, Brouws presents to us a world that is, by turns, charmingly faded, humorously eccentric and wistfully enduring.
