Yew is able to grow an aerial root, bury it in the ground, and form it into a new trunk. A single tree can repeat this activity even for several thousand years, which makes it very difficult to define the age of certain yew trees. Due to their lifespans spanning several human generations, the Druids regarded yew trees as sacred. In Celtic culture, because of their poisonous leaves and their unique method of propagation, they symbolized death and resurrection.
