Károly Kismányoky was a Hungarian artist associated with the neo avant garde generation that emerged in the late 1960s. Born in Pécs, he was a founding member of the Pécs Workshop, a group of artists working experimentally with form, material, and new approaches to image making in a period shaped by cultural restriction.

Kismányoky’s work moved between photography, performance, film, and site based actions. Beginning with geometric and constructivist concerns, he later developed a practice centered on temporary interventions in natural and industrial environments. These works often involved placing simple forms into the landscape and recording their transformation over time.

Across media, his work focused on change, repetition, and the relationship between an action and its documentation, whether through outdoor projects or later work in film and animation.
