Karola Beyera

Polish-Russian , 1818—1877

Often referred to the as the “father of Polish photography”, Karola Beyera operated a photo studio in Warsaw from 1844-1867 where he focused on photographic portraiture. It was there that he photographed residents of Warsaw and it’s outlying rural areas. Beyera also had an interest in documenting the urban cityscapes of that time and photographed city views of Warsaw, Krakow, Częstochowa, Gdańsk, Malbork and Łódź; These photographs serve as valuable historic documentation of these places today.
