Josef Bartuška was a Czech artist, photographer, and filmmaker associated with the avant-garde movement in interwar Czechoslovakia. Born in České Budějovice, Bartuška was a founding member of the Devětsil art group and later a prominent figure in the Linie Group, which sought to explore the intersection of art, technology, and modernity. His multidisciplinary approach spanned experimental photography, typographic design, and film, reflecting his fascination with the possibilities of new media.

Bartuška’s innovative work often challenged traditional artistic boundaries, emphasizing abstraction and dynamic compositions. His films and photomontages captured the spirit of the modern industrial age, while his graphic designs demonstrated a keen sensitivity to form and structure.

Today, Josef Bartuška is recognized as a significant contributor to the development of Czech modernism, with his works held in collections such as the Moravian Gallery in Brno and the National Gallery in Prague.
