Jock Sturges, Jock Sturges: New Work 1997-2000
Essay by Gerry Badger

Sturges continues his work documenting youth, nature, and the beauty of the unguarded human body. The long awaited monograph is beautifully printed, and, for the first time, reproduces his large-format color work. The sumptuous lighting and settings have not changed; but with over two decades of familiarity, the level of trust has deepened between artist and models. The new studies yield a fresh impetus to a remarkable body of work. Images include his figurative work both in Northern California and Montalivet, France, and chronicle his on-going relationship with numerous friends and family members over the course of four years.
